RECENT POST

I tried Apple chutney or you could say Thuviyal in a different way, I just hopped my kids and FIL would like it and i would get an empty bowl back, thank God!, my second daughter loved it!!, she really enjoyed & relished it, as she is not a chutney person, that's how she says, she adds a person thing on whatever she talks about!!, she is a sweet loving child, always giggling & smiling, and a chatter box just like her mum, as my family would say, jayasri would talk to anybody, if she cannot find anybody she will talk to anything around her, like they say in kannada ''kallu kooda maathadisthaale'', (will make the stone to talk to her!!), The best thing she said today was,

''mum, do you know you are doing a very good thing''
''really, what is the good thing i am doing''
''where ever we are we know you are their with us, helping in our cooking to get the taste of mum's cooking''
''mmm, how is it ?''
''mum, don't be so stupid, Of course, it's your blog, you know we just love the way you cook, & we can always know what you put in it!!, isn't it amazing ?''
''yeah, may be,....''
''But, Of course, mum, but it would be only a dish with mum's ingredients in it..., but not her love isn't it...., so, may be it might not be soooo good as you do....''
Oh!, God, she just went on & on , we were all laughing.., she is just 12 but 5ft 8' in height and towers over me...

APPLE THUVIYAL (THOGEYAL)/CHUTNEY

Ingredients:
  • 1 Big Bramely Apple
  • 2 tbsp of Chenna dal/Bengal gram dal
  • 2 tbsp of Urad dal/Black Gram dal
  • 2 tbsp of Tuvar dal
  • 1 tbsp of white Til
  • 1 Sprig of curry leaves
  • 3 sprig of coriander leaves
  • 1 or 2 flakes Tamarind
  • salt as required
  • a bit of jaggery
  • a pinch of Asafoetida
METHOD
  1. Cut the Bramely apples, take out the core and cook in the microwave for 2 minutes, with the skin on
  2. Take a wok, heat a tsp of oil, and add all the other ingredients one by one except for jaggery and salt, fry them until a nice aroma arises or until they change colour to a golden brown, take them out and allow it to cool
  3. Then grind them, without the apple in the first around so the dals are ground 3/4th and then add the cooked apples and grind them again with the bit of jaggery & salt.
  4. Take it out and season it with a tsp of oil heated up and add a tsp of mustard seeds, when they splutter add them to the Thuviyal
  5. Serve it with rice, chappatis, any kind of rottis, I made this with for my ubbu rotti & menthyda gojju
