Comedian Michael Ian Black is not exactly who you'd imagine to be writing a cutesy children's book. But he did. And his video to promote it is genius. A fictional making of, it covers the collaboration between himself and the illustrator, Mr. Peter Brown. My favorite line:
I'm having trouble distinguishing what is vomit and what is actually the drawing.
A dead dog and a dead kid. Sounds like some sappy stuff, huh? Barbara Park does a good job reaping this tear-conjuring material without overdoing it. A book for kids dealing with death early on or for parents who want to push their bike helmet agenda. A quick read that leaves a lasting impression.
