hi everybody,

I few days back Doris of meeso of sweet and spicy wrote to me that she had a hard time to stay on my blog and post any comment, Like this I have received I had lot of others writing to me, I am so thank ful to all of you who wrote to me about this problem, I knew because I myself had problem in accessing my blog and had hard time to stay on it !!, I wrote back to Doris about this and she was kind enough to send me some google help forum threads who had the same problem like mine, before going into the thread I thought of reporting this blog as spam to google and went into their ''Report a spam'', in the column provided I wrote my own blog name without even bothering to read the whole content, don't you think that was my height of stupidity !! or I think I was so desperate about rectifying it, now I am wondering how to contact google and tell them about the grave mistake I have done !!, can somebody help me with this please...
Then again I went back to the forum thread like me lot of other people had same problems, some of them had written that they had deleted gadgets which helped them to solve the problem. So, I went back to my blog and deleted some gadgets now I think my blog is not bugged with any other spam blogs.
But fingers crossed and hoping google would look into the blog and see that my blog is just a food blog and nothing else and wouldn't do anything to my blog.

Ginger Bread House - Daring Baker's Challenge December 2009

Ginger Bread House for the Festive Season of the Year!!, Daring Baker's Challenge for December 2009

Joining Daring Baker's has given me an outlet for my baking passion but also such an in depth in Baking and techniques, I should tell you I am quite enjoying it, even though I missed the last one as I had personal health problems, I am still planning to do it sometime soon as I want to know the taste of it!!.

After coming to Uk Ginger Bread and children seem to go well together which is what I noticed, The children here seem to love the Ginger Bread men, and other different characters they bake in different shapes and sizes!!, The kids are beaming with joy when they see their parents buying them as treats !!, they are so delighted, but I never thought of eating them to see how they taste , This ginger bread recipe made me not only try it out, but the best was my kids who loved and enjoyed it, Thanks to Anna and Y for bringing out this challenge, The house was built by my kids, they enjoyed doing it, and they were eating the icing and smarties now and then licking them up when they were building it!!, I had to clean up a little so that i could take a photo of it, before they were into it !!

December 2009 Daring Baker's challenge was brought to us and to you all by Anna of Very Small Anna and Y of Lemonpi. They choose to challenge Daring Baker's around the world to bake and assemble a Ginger Bread House from scratch, They choose these recipes from Good House Keeping and from The great Scandinavian Baking Book as the challenge recipes.

I chose to use Y's recipe, beacuse I had no molasses, and actually I still have to find where I can get hold of them!!, never thought of using them, as I really don't bake too much, They had both given a detailed way of making these houses and some sites which you could go through for the way to build them.

I as usual was not a very good architect and was not very precise with making cardboard cuts I used my eyes as measurments and made the pieces and made the Icing which came out very well, I am not a lover of Icing as I can't so much sugar, (kids loved it) but enjoyed making it and filled in 2 piping bags and gave it to the kids for them to enjoy making the decorations, I know it is not looking too good but they loved it, I thought ginger bread and children and they would love it, so allowed them making their house, half the time

they were licking and eating the Icing, I did not use the sugar syrup because they took everything to the lounge and messed my carpet !!, so I just couldn't risk my carpet and sugar syrup with their laughing and giggling and shouting, so I just sat their watching them with more Icing and told them to bind the house together and get the photo soon, Oops !! at last they completed it. So, I know it is not looking too good but Anna and Y my kids loved it, and we all had a fun time doing it, thank you again.

I haven't posted the recipes here, I thought you must visit their blogs to check out on the detailed recipe of them both, and I also have provided a link to Beatrice Ojankagas and look into her blog too., I came to know about her from lovely baker Aparna, who has as always done a good job of baking the ginger bread house, who gives a lot of credit to this lady and about her baking, which i also want to try some time.

My Verdict:

Never try to make ginger bread houses are any these kind of things which you want to make without any prior calculations !! as you will definitely end up having a hard time constructing your house, well, I didn't make them my kids did and they loved it, as they had such a difficult time constructing it !! so kept them from sitting in front of the TV or computer and spend some quality time together with such fun.

Pumpkin Soup

After the winter set in My kids pester me everyday that they want soup. I was telling my eldest that I can't make it everyday because dad doesn't like to have soup and bread everyday, he loves his rice!!, So, she wanted to make it clear, she went to him and asked what do you say ? soup, bread, and few cooked veggies, and with some finger chips or potato wedges!!, That is so british ain't it ?, very bristolian !!, well, funny when people in bristol have their own accent, ain't it ? for isn't it ?, Ta for Thanks, these words were so new to me when I came here, but I haven't picked them up, but, my kids have expecially my son !!, After coming here I see One English and people speak it in many different accents, Liverpool, birmingham, scotland, wales Oops!! i was amazed, and when i got to know about these, I remembered the film in which Prof. Henry Higgins says how can the british speak english in so many ways ? yes, The great film '' My Fair Lady'' (1964) I love that film and doesn't mind watching it now and then, My husband was not ready to watch it when my kids told him to, but, one day we were watching this movie when my hubby was sitting on the computer and doing his own work, we tried to lure him to watch the movie, and just gave it up, and then came this song where Higgins asks colonel pickering ''why can't be a woman more like a man ?'', well, that's he heard it and listened to the whole song, and loved it, and made us to rewind and watched the whole movie and thoroughly enjoyed it!! Men!, God! that's what (girls and me) we thought !!, so, said the girls to the man of the house!!.

PUMPKIN SOUP

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup chunks of yellow pumpkin/squash/
2 garlic pods
a few sprigs of coriander leaves
1'' ginger
salt to taste
1 small potato
corn flour (optional)
1/2'' cinnamon stick
1 clove
1/2 tsp of pepper
1 bay leaf
pepper powder (optional/or to garnish or increase the taste to your requirement)

METHOD:

Cook the pumpkin, potato, garlic, clove, pepper, cinnamon stick and ginger in 1/2 litre of water until well cooked,
Drain all the water and keep it aside
Allow the veggies to cool then grind them into a smooth paste removing the bay leaf from it.
Then dissolve this ground paste in the water kept aside, and see if it too thick add little more water to the consistency of a soup, But if you like it thick you can keep it just like that.
If the soup is too watery take a tbsp of corn flour dilute it in water and add it to the soup to thicken it.
Totally Make the soup however you like, I have just given jist of ingredients which you can alter to your own taste.
Put it on the stove again and boil it with required quantity of salt,
serve it garnished with finely washed and chopped coriander leaves which is also optional,
You can add a dollop of cream if you like your soup a little bit creamy,
Add pepper which is also optional if you like it more spiced like my daughter and me!! we loved it that way.
Enjoy the hot soup with the bread of your choice, or with some croutons, or just plain.

Never let it be said that buns are for matrons, librarians, or old ladies. It is as young and fresh as it can get that keep coming up on the ramp year after year. Then divide your hair at the top your head into four sections Weave in braids close to the scalp till you reach the top of your head; braid two longer plats at the side of your head just above the ears. Then pull up your tresses into a ponytail and roll it loosely to create a fan like bun on top. Pin, and then wrap the braids at side around the base of the bun.

This is a sophisticated take on top knot. It can be worn to formal events, or even by the bride who is dressing in a traditional garb. This kind of style can hold the head cover very firmly, giving you a slimmer silhouette. This is like a top knot, but it is slightly lower at the back. Roll and twist the ponytail tightly around the base to create a Danish bun like structure, fix it. Then attach a small hair switch (smaller bun) on top of the cinnabun to get a Grecian style.

Make a ponytail and then start rolling your hair into a pipe and take it across the head, pinning the roll as you go. Hi all, Christmas and New year comming soon, everybody is so busy, me too!!, It's been almost a month I posted anything, and I was so happy, that I made such good friends through blogging, few of them enquiring what happened to me, thanks to all of you, I think I will get going now.., I missed doing my daring bakers challenge too, I miss it, but, I am going to do it soon enough and post it in my blog, I have not been able to visit everybody's blog, peeping now and then, I might have missed so many lovely dishes posted by you all, but I will look into them soon, Well, thank God!, I couldn't miss Indian Cooking Challenge, started by Srivalli and November month's challenge was making chigodilu , Valli is giving us new things to do in cooking and making us put on little weight!!, and making my children and friends enjoying all that I make, and me trying my best not to eat!!, Oh! everything becomes so difficult when I see the savouries my mouth starts watering, and this one just looked like kodubale's from karnataka state, which is my favourite, I thought I should try this out, and the process which I often do for my Ubbu rottis and other dishes I make from the basic flour made this way, but, I never new that this can fried in oil and made as a snack!!, thanks for the challenge valli, and also sorry for posting this so late, as usual, I wanted to post this in the morning, I couldn't make it, my daughter fell sick yesterday night, I had to go to work, after that, I really thought she must have caught the flu, she is alright now, thank to God!, the school closes tomorrow, with the tempratures dropping down here, children won't listen if you tell them cover your head and go out!! and end up with blocked nose and head becoming heavy and what nots, So, I made mologu rasam today, I am really tired, sometimes I wonder why did I ever venture into this!, sorry let me go back to the recipe..

CHEGODILU

Srivalli had given two recipes, I decided to try both of them the one white in colour is the one where in rice flour and maida is used, the one with little bubbles in it are made with moong dal, it was slightly darker in colour because of the dal. well, both of them tasted very well. I have written both the recipes the method is quite the same.

Ingredients:

1 cup - Rice floour

1 cup - water

2 tbsp - Split moong dal

1 tsp - Cumin Seeds

1 tsp - Sesame seeds

1 tsp - Chilli powder

1 tbsp - Ghee or Oil

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying

Method:

Make the dough:

Soak the moong dal in water for 1/2 to 1 hour, in a deep pan boil water, then add salt, ghee and moong dal. bring to boil, simmer and slowly add rice flour using a wooden ladle mix flour with water and mix it well and close the lid and leave it for some time, turn off the heat immediately.
I added cumin seeds, chilli powder also into the water when it was boiling and then continued the process as said above, add added sesame seeds only in the end. if it is a little sticky you can use rice flour just dip your hand and take it out and make the rounds or apply oil to your hand and make the rounds and deep fry in batches, as moong dal is added it gives a golden red colour.

II Recipe: Ingredients:

3/4 cup - Rice flour
1/4 cup - Maida (All purpose flour)
2 tbsp - Ghee
1/4 tsp - Ajwain
1/4 tsp - Red chilli powder
a pinch turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tbsp - Oil or Ghee
Oil for deep frying

Method:

Method is just the same as above, here also I added everything to the water and mixed the flours in the water and kneaded them into a soft dough and carried on with the same procedures to make the chigodilus, nice and crispy.
